About This Book
"The geographical entity that is known as the Catholic parish of Templeorum, since 1720, with a few minor changes in boundary in the intervening time, covers an area of 20,460 statute acres and is situated in the southern end of the Anglo Norman medieval county of Kilkenny. It is part of a much older entity, within the diocese of Ossory, which itself is based on the ancient tribal area of Osraige, which was one of the country's one hundred and fifty tuathas or small kingdoms in the 9th century. Within the Catholic parish of Templeorum are three districts, that of Templeorum itself, Owning and Piltown, incorporating the medieval civil parishes of Fiddown, Tybroughney, Owning, Whitechurch and Muckalee. In the ancient province of Leinster it borders the Anglo-Norman medieval counties of Tipperary and Waterford. The river Suir and its tributary rivers form the boundaries. The parish is part of the Suir Valley, a valley which stretches from Waterford city to the southern end of county Kilkenny and of county Tipperary." -- From introduction p. 11.
