William Beatson

Traces William Beatson's career from his apprenticeship in London to emigration and his practice in Nelson. An examination of each building he designed - the history behind each, the design and response to the architectural conditions - gives an understanding of his own personal reaction and contribution to Nelson's architecture, and the contribution which his architecture made to Nelson's development.
