Reviews and discusses classic focuses in study of carnival rituals, and their implications to study of indigenous worldview in Mexico. Based on results of studies by 19 anthropologists in various regions of Mexico, documents and analyzes carnival beliefs and practices in celebrations by Otomíes, Huicholes, Purepechaa, Totonacas, Zoques, Nahuas, Mixes, Zapotecas and Tzeltales, as well as African-Mexican communities of Oaxaca.
