Constituted as Liberty Association, Etowah County, at Bethany Church in what is now Etowah County in 1842. The name was changed to Cherokee County Baptist Association in 1844. The name changed again to DeKalb County Baptist Association in 1905. (Not to be confused with Cherokee County Missionary Baptist Association)
