Hall was the first instructor of Indiana University (l820's), an educator, author, Presbyterian minister, lecturer, musician and humorist. Book covers ancestry, career, family, travels. His mother's family were slave-owning residents of Edisto Island, S.C.; his father, a Philadelphia doctor. Baynard Hall was a cousin and orphaned charge of Dr. Benjamin Rush, Founding Father.
