This book describes a sequence of events involving men in the Haute-Loire countryside during the great summer, autumn and winter. They served under the most prestigious marshals and generals of the Empire Davout, Ney, Murat King of Naples, Oudinot, the Viceroy of Italy Eugène de Beauharnais, Morand, Gudin, Montbrun ... with fights and battles almost daily. This gives an idea of the intensity of effort, courage, tenacity and endurance of these men, restless, often without food, suffering from the heat, rain and cold, sleeping in bivouac during almost all of these 191 days.
