About This Book

There are many references available to normal data on children, but the purpose of this volume is to present such material from reliable sources in a compact, convenient form, handy for quick reference and restricted to aspects of growth and development likely to be most required by medical practitioners dealing with children. The data are presented mainly in the form of charts and tables representing normal values with an indication of the range which may be expected within a British population. A new chapter is, however, included to indicate the approximate differences which are found in other countries. Many of the tables are based on new up-to-date studies. With the exception of one new chapter providing data on Turner's syndrome, Noonan's syndrome, Down's syndrome, and achondroplasia (four conditions of sufficiently high incidence to warrant special attention), the volume is not intended to document abnormal conditions as these have been addressed in a previous book.
