About This Book
Five curatorial essays that articulate the most recent staging of the permanent collection of the Miguel de Urrutia Museum of Art (MAMU) in Bogota. The polyphonic perspectives contextualizes Colombian artists within a universal history of art and allows different works from different historical periods to coexist in physical proximity, thus generating counterpoints that invite new interpretations. The result is a chronological, but not linear, journey through the history of the past 500 years of Colombian art, contrasting these with foreign works of art and international trends to suggest lines of interpretation for the national context. Through their texts, the researchers establish connections and new ways of interpreting emblematic works -ranging from the colony to the present day- in the context of the Art Collection of the Banco de la República.
