Henry Harrisse (1829-1910) notes that the name of Cabot’s ship, the ‘Matthew’, appears nowhere save in Barrett’s History of Bristol, and wonders if Thomas Chatterton forged the information. Harrisse got involved into a pamphlet dispute with George Edward Weare, who refuted his claims.
