About This Book

The collection contains a mixture of items dating from 1792 to 2008 relating to China including China's foreign relations in the late 18th century to middle of 20th century. As an example, there are four pages of notes made by Aeneas Anderson, a servant on the ship that took Lord McCartney to China on a mission sent by English King George III to attempt to establish diplomatic relations with the emperor of China in 1792-1793. There are items regarding the Boxer Rebellion in 1900 and Chinese politics and government from late Qing Dynasty to 1997. The collection also contains documents relating to the labor and library movements in China in the early 20th century. Miscellaneous items relate to the Sino-American Cooperative Organization and the Harvard Medical School of China, which existed from 1911 to 1916. Various publicity photos of East Asia at Harvard University are included in this collection as well
