Volume 1 is an intermediate draft of Borthwick's book "A treatise on the law of libel and slander as applied in Scotland, in criminal prosecutions and in actions of damages" published in Edinburgh in 1826. Volume 2 titled "Notes on Scotch law of libel & slander" is a compilation of notes dating to 1811; also includes printed and manuscript copies of cour records, notes, clippings, opinions, passages copied from treatises and letters from lawyers and judges in response to questions on legal points.
