About This Book

The book 'Passage/shaft/niche/lining/nave - wandering' centers around the architect Petra Gipp's work with sculptures and physical models, which has become one of her key methods for creating clarity and a personal voice through her architecture. Gipp's work with models sits at the core of her architectural expression, and also provides one of the central methods to the architecture office that she founded in Stockholm in 2009. For Gipp, working with models offers a way of approaching architecture independent of scales - where space may be sculptured out of a single massiveness. By working seamlessly with one material - casted plaster - volume, element and detail are all interwoven into a central idea about the essence of architecture. To patiently sculpt a particular material allows one to form an architectural idea, and in that way to give lucidity and a personal voice to the rooms and volumes that emerges through the sculpting process. Exhibition: Liljevalchs konsthall, Stockholm, Sweden (27.04.-13.05.2018).
