Replacing the wooden spokes of the wheel with thin tension-wires was one of the most efficient constructions ever created. This book brings together a multiplicity of illustrative, and in some cases also curious, examples from two centuries of water wheels, Ferris wheels, airplanes and dirigibles, bridges and roof constructions.
