About This Book

Extensive compilation of text--folk tales, myths, accounts of dramatic or humorous real events, etc.--from indigenous residents of states of Puebla, Veracruz and Hidalgo speaking in Totonaca and Tepehua. Each source text is transcribed phrase by phrase in four different ways: practical spelling, technical transcription, divided by morphological breaks, and free translation into Spanish. Texts are also accompanied by essay on general characteristics of language and location in which it is spoken, features of text itself and linguistic aspects of speech recorded. Accompanying CD-ROM contains audio recordings of same text as well as some related images (archaeological artifacts, primarily). Edition limited to 500 copies.
