Fort Laurens, 1778-1779

An excellent historical account of Fort Laurens during the Revolutionary War in Ohio. Erected on the banks of the Tuscarawas River, this fort was planned as the first step to secure the Western Frontier. The chapters portray the sad and tragic failure of this venture. Its history is a mixture of heroic bravery, courage and confusion, plus poor planning and almost insurmountable hardship. A scholarly treatment, this history of an inexorable American movement into Indian lands by soldiers, who considered the Indian allies of the British, is a memorable account well organized and expertly written, and fitted, with proper significance, into the all-over record of the Revolutionary War. - Ohioana Quarterly, on back cover.
