About This Book

The workshop was convened by FAO and WARDA from November 4-7, 2003 in Bamako, Mali, attended by participants from nine countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Chad) as well as resource persons from various projects, universities, and research centers. The main objectives were (i) to review the current achievements and constraints of integrated irrigation aquaculture activities in the West African sub-region, (ii) to develop a common approach and shared methodologies for IIA, and (iii) to elaborate national strategies for the promotion of IIA. It was concluded that the participating countries have significant potential for developing integrated aquaculture activities, particularly in irrigated systems dominated by rice production. This document summarizes the preparation, conduct and recommended follow-up of the workshop.--Publisher's description.
