About This Book

The questionnaire was mailed in 1970 to a nationwide sample of seven academic professional groups: botanists, classicists, economists, geologists, lawyers, political scientists, and sociologists. These particular academic disciplines were selected in an effort to obtain a cross-section of the academic community. The questionnaire was constructed in order to provide information concerning the respondent's political party preference, reasons for the party preference, previous voting in presidential elections, political activity, political ideology, and a number of demographic characteristics. A total of 1,817 respondents returned their questionnaires.
