About This Book

Published by the American Library Association this book contains: 1) a calendar of days listing birthdays of notable people (also notes days of death for some), holidays, saint's days, special occasions, moveable feasts and seasons for every day of the year. Organized such that names can be backtracked through the calendar; 2) references to more than 1000 books which furnish addition information on all noted persons and events; 3) information on the origin of holidays and holy days, world-wide observation customs, references to sources of "plays and pageants" for teachers, etc. and cross-reference lists for all persons noted; 4) full (and I might add, very complete) index.

This well-researched book was written for librarians and teachers. Today (2015) it retains the same value as a reference it did in 1928 and 1944 (1st & 2nd eds.). Additionally, those interested in historiography and cultural history would find it very useful.
