In the late nineteenth century, Fernando Poo, former Spanish colony in the Gulf of Guinea, is a jail in which to confine all those who are denied the future. The soldier Moises Corvo, who is young, boastful, rakish, a cheater and a drunkard, is destined to end up on this remote island. Nothing suggests to the intrepid Corvo his stay in Bioko, what the natives call the Island, will become his worst nightmare.
