Le titre de ce livre joue d'emblée sur les mots, ou plus exactement sur la similitude orthographique et la différence de sens entre le "fils" et les "fils" pour exposer l'incessante quête filiale de Chamoiseau à travers son écriture -- ou la posture du fils qui rend hommage à ses pères spirituels, sans oublier les vieux conteurs de l'île dont la voix se meurt -- tout en révélant les liens tissés entre ses romans et différentes œuvres majeures de la littérature française ou mondiale.

The title of this book plays on words, or more precisely on the spelling similarity and the difference in meaning between the words "thread" and "sons" to expose the relentless filial pursuit by Chamoiseau through his writing -- or the posture of the son who pays homage to his spiritual fathers, not forgetting the old storytellers of the island whose voices are dying -- while revealing the ties between his novels and several major works of French and world literature.
