The Story of Heather

***(Reading Level: Elementary and Jr. High School)*** Heather was a tiny, black, Exmoor pony and her story is told by herself. She begins by informing the reader that she was not always named Heather. When she was very small, her mother named her Blackie, for her sleek black coat. She had a brown coated younger brother named, you guessed it, Brownie and the two would play together for hour upon hour.

***''Our mother used to say that I made him wild and led him into mischief, and perhaps it was true.*** I never could be content just grazing quietly by mother's side as Fluffy did....'' Although Brownie was only one year younger than Blackie, Fluffy was several years younger than her, and a real showoff, with her fluffy mane, and a real MAMA's baby!
