About This Book
The book is about the economic role of women at the household level. The book is written based on an ethnographic fieldwork conducted among the Dorze of the Gamo highlands, south western Ethiopia. It portrays how Dorze women, in addition to child care and other domestic activities, manage the family farm and involve in income generating activities including petty trading while the majority of young men migrate to urban centers such as Addis Ababa to get better market for their weaving skills. The book analyses the role of Dorze women in light of household theories developed in fields of economics and social anthropology.
