About This Book

Thesis describes a pseudo-one dimensional analysis of negative and positive charge trajectories beneath a high voltage transmission line in corona and in the presence of a laminar wind flow beneath the line. A program written in FORTRAN is presented which calculates field lines, as well as charge and current density profiles at ground level beneath the HVDC transmission line.

Corona onset is calculated as an infinitesimally thin sheath at the surface of the HVDC conductor through use of formulas developed by Lawless and Sparks, and also based on the earlier work of F.W. Peek who was one of the first to publish in depth studies of corona discharge from high voltage AC transmission lines.
