About This Book

Systems theory, originating from the work of the Austrian biologist Ludwig Von Bertalanffy (1901-1972), has contributed to the development of new perspectives in various scientific disciplines, but has also proved to be interesting for the development of thought in the humanities. This work offers a brief introduction to systems theory and considers it in relation to the philosophical anthropology of Aristotle, as presented in his De anima. Revisiting the works of Aristotle in the light of systems theory provides an interpretive model that is able to create a dialogue with science, while at the same time not neglecting the elements and characteristics specific to human existence.
