About This Book
"Part of a larger study comparing the bourgeois elites in Mexico and Argentina. Work is composed of four articles. Three are roughly parallel examinations of the economic activities that produced the local bourgeoisie in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. While based on archival sources, they are necessarily brief and suggestive. The regions covered are the Mexican state of Jalisco, the Argentine province of Córdoba, and the Argentine territory of Chubut. Fourth article looks at how the merchant community in Córdoba gathered political power in the first half of the 19th century"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
