About This Book

Turkish contemporary sources on the Great Siege of Malta have been quite difficult to come by until recently. In this work, the author reproduces and comments on sixteen decrees connected with the 1565 Siege, which were issued by the Turkish Imperial Council between December 1564 and December 1565. The latter part of this publication is devoted to the description of and commentary on "The Malta Campaign Register", the manuscript recovered by Cassola in Istanbul, which is to be considered as the most extensive Turkish source so far on this historical event. This publication is an exciting venture into a new field of studies hitherto unexplored locally and should serve as a spur to the unearthing of new material on the multi-secular relations between Malta and the Ottoman Empire.
