About This Book

Philip Ursprung, Dean of the Department of Architecture at the ETH Zurich, Switzerland, presents two essays: Representation of Work discusses through authors like Harun Farocki and Guy Debord the invisibility of alienated work on the basis of the current economic model, arguing that the discussion on the representation of work should also be a discussion about the role of architects in society. In the second text Performative Historiography, Ursrpung is based on the concept of "performative writing" coined by the historians Peggy Phelan, Kristine Stiles and Amelia Jones that sought to convey to the reader the conditional and variable nature of an author's perspective, to present their own points of view, with regard to historiography and criticism in general.
