About This Book

I believe it's about the illegal prize fights between Tom Cribb and Molyneux ( a black Amaerican freed-slave prizefighter ) at Crown Point in Thistleton during the early 19th century. About 25 000 people watched the fight whose outcome was supposed to be controversial. I think that Tom Cribb probably stayed at the ex-Bull Hotel on the old Great North Road and that Molyneux stayed at the Ram Jam the night before their fight. The fight was purportedly held at Crown Point because it was immmediately on the point where Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Rutland( or Northamptonshire ) boundaries met and when an injuction against the illegal fight was issued by Grantham magistrates it was easy to reset the ring over the county boundary. I am desperately trying to get hold of a copy of this book. ( Peter Harden tel. 01476585250 or on E-mail postmaster@ingoldsby.org )
