Die Weiße Liste und die Stunde Null in Deutschland 1945

The story of a secret document that lay undiscovered in the National Archives in Washington, D.C., for decades. The document listed the names of 1,500 Germans (publishers, artists, lawyers, politicians, trade unionists, and others) considered reliable to participate in rebuilding a democratic German state after capitulation. The Americans, called the secret document the "White List" because it only contained persons with an assumed anti- or non-Nazi ethos. Since 1943, General Robert A. McClure, who was in charge of psychological warfare, had his soldiers question prisoners of war, refugees, and other sources to gather the information used to create the White List. During his research in the Mid-1970s, the historian Henric L. Wuermeling came across the list and this book is the result of that find.
