The beam engine & Western Springs Pumping Station

This is the first technical historic study of the pumping engine, machinery and engineering requirements in constructing this waterworks and the restoration of the Victorian beam engine. At various stages through the restoration process countless still photographs of the work in progress were taken. Includes chapters on the history of the district, the volcanic action of Auckland that created the source of the springs water, William Errington the design engineer, other beam engines that once existed in New Zealand including the North Shore Pumping Statin (Lake Pupuke), and the formation of MOTAT.
