In a cruel yet comforting parallel, friends Becky and Kathy have recently both lost their jobs, and face the prospect of starting their lives all over again. Taking up the offer to borrow her elderly uncle's narrowboat, Becky sets sail for the Yorkshire Dales with her son Jonathon, wondering if new pastures might help her regain what she's lost.
