About This Book

The retrospective "Nada que Cesa" reviews more than 30 years of artistic production of artist Fernando Arias Gaviria (Armenia, Quindío, 1963). The artist highlights themes such as nation-building, power relations, politics, violence, armed conflict, the repressive dynamics that have determined religious and political institutions in the human being. "Arias' controversial research is completely rooted in Colombia's complex socio-political reality. He denounces the intolerable excess of political, social and cultural violence that intensifies the problems that affect the country, and by extension, that involve contemporary society." explains Eugenio Viola, curator of the exhibition. The title of the exhibition was inspired by one of the phrases of the Colombian national anthem "¡Cesó la horrible noche!" (the horrible night ceased!), but the artist expresses in his work that in truth this horrible night never ceased.
