About This Book

George Hearst was a prospector and miner and businessman in California, Nevada, Utah, and South Dakota. He owned the San Francisco Examiner newspaper and built the Hearst publishing firm. He acquired Rancho Piedra Blanca at San Simeon, California, and nearby ranches, which became the location of his son's Hearst Castle. Hearst owned Thoroughbred racing horses. He served int the California legislature and became a United States Senator. The Appendix contains eulogies from the Senate, House, California legislature, and newspapers.
