About This Book
It was short listed for Sri Lankan Arts Council Award. It was translated into English under the title, "The Chameleon" by Vijith Fernanado. It gained the Ian Gunathilaka award for the best translation in 2004.
The story is based in Beijing background narrated by foreign experts who happened to be in Beijing at the time of a Sri Lankaan con man's arrival there. There is a Chinese girl narrator as well. It gives a vivid picture of modern Beijing and Chinese life with a philosophical touch. At the same time it is a tragedy of modern politics where there is a very thin invincible line to separate if it can be done, between the honesty-decency and dishonesty and indecency. Is there a difference between those who a trapped in international lies and personal lies?
