About This Book

Vatican II's Constitution on the Church reiterated the truth that salvation outside the Church is possible. How is it possible? This book is a very important contribution to a solution and to an analysis of the implications. Its arguments have scandalized some who see in them the undermining of the motivation of missionary work through approaching the mystery of the Church in a way that mocks the expense of missionary effort. The charge is refuted. One of the conclusions this Conference reached was that as the Church exists to serve, not to conquer, world religions, it has to think, speak and act in solidarity with them; it shares a common responsibility not in passive co-existence but in active pro-existence.
