Untold story of a group of rebels known as Jeune Haïti who landed in Haiti in 1964 intent on overthrowing the François Duvalier regime. Author also offers summary of similar, unsuccessful invasions, from 1964 to 2014. The author, Matthieu Prosper Avril (1937), a military and political figure, was President of Haiti from 1988 to 1990. He was a trusted member of François Duvalier's Presidential Guard and later adviser to Jean-Claude Duvalier. Lt. Gen. Avril led the September 1988 Haitian coup d'état against a transition military government installed in 1986 after Jean-Claude Duvalier's overthrow. His presidency was marred by serious human rights violations and he was arrested in 2001 Avril was released in March 2004 after the 2004 Haitian coup d'état overthrew the then President Jean-Bertrand Aristide. Avril has also published From glory to disgrace: the Haitian army, 1804-1994 (1999), An appeal to history: the truth about a singular lawsuit (2000) and Justice versus politics in Haiti, 2001-2004 (2007), among other titles.
