About This Book

In 1908 the New Zealand painter Walter Wright first exhibited his work "The Burning of the Boyd." Hailed at the time as an almost documentary statement of an incident which had occurred in Whangaroa harbor in 1809, it is now recognized by historians as being wrong in almost every particular, and a travesty of the Maori role in the affair.
