The Arturo Collection was in England. Smuggled out of Italy just before Mussolini's entry into the war, the great art collection had been hidden for the duration somewhere in the country.
Now, with the war moving towards its close, with the Italian armistice signed, the time had come to start negotiating the collection's return; a politically friendly gesture towards an Italian nation newly committed to the allies.
