Control of the Thyroid Gland:Regulation of Its Normal Function and Growth

Proceedings of a symposium held in Bethesda, Maryland, March 1989. The contributions address various aspects of the pituitary-thyroid axis; thyroid regulators--neurogenic agents, hormones, iodide; signals and transduction; regulation of growth and function. The thyroid can serve as a model for other endocrine organs and, even more broadly, might contribute to an understanding of the growth and function of any specialized group of cells in a multi-cellular organism.
