About This Book

For more than three decades, photographer Andreas Heiniger (b. Switzerland 1949, lives and works in Brazil since 1979) has been impacted by constant technological innovations. The transition of the analogic cameras to digital technologies or the displacement of plastic film by computer programs have altered the practice of photography and the comprehension of what really is today a photographic image. Heiniger whose trajectory include the advertisement and editorial fields presents a particular reflection over fundamental concerns in photography in a time of vertiginous transformation. The first part of the book presents the thoughts of Heiniger in reference to photography, of its role in the contemporary world and the different trends after the development of new technologies and digital formats. The text was elaborated from a series of interviews done with Heiniger in Sao Paulo and is illustrated with his own photographs, taken in different moments of his career. The second part brings together images of diverse artists that illustrate Heiniger ideas, or that for different reasons were important references in his career. The text explains how these names influenced his photographic work, presenting a new analytical perspective.
