A comparative analysis of the basic concepts by which the general theory of law, international public law, and international private law operate. The role of legal categories in juridical science and the issue of subjects, objects, and sources of international public and private law are examined. Considerable attention is given to practical application of law in Russia, the Newly Independent States, the European Union, and the U.S.
