Art is but a means to see, to see the invisible in the visible. And Apollinaire, Picasso, Duchamp, De Chirico or Picabia found in the x-rays and the trace of their passage through the bodies an analogical resource with which to give their visions to see. This foray into the art of the early twentieth century deals with the resonances of the discovery of x-rays in the thinking and artistic practice of the time, stating that, beyond simplifying "seismic" categorizations and nuances typical of all subjectivity, all these artists claimed a deeper and more dynamic realism than canonical mimetic realism. Everyone wanted to be more realistic, superrealistic. And they found in the x-rays an ideal analogy, both formal and procedural, of that way of seeing and presenting reality in depth, unfolding inexhaustibly new horizons of vision and knowledge, in which all of them committed themselves.
