Novel based on the life of former president Joaquín Balaguer (1906-2002) who is considered by many as one of the most important Dominican intellectuals of the 20th century yet was a very controversial figure as a politician serving under Trujillo and later as President himself. He was president of the Dominican Republic on six (6) occasions (1966-1978, 1986-1990, 1990-1994, and 1994-1996). Cornelia Margarita Torres is a Dominican journalist who was instrumental in covering-up news during Balaguer's most repressive and authoritarian years as president, known in the Dominican Republic as "los doce años".
