About This Book

The story of a Romani girl born the year the Nazis came into power. Found on the doorstep of the town hospital, she is taken by and grows up as the foster daughter of a middle-class family. In 1943, she is taken from the family under the pretense of meeting up with her biological family. Instead she is taken to Auschwitz, where she dies a few days later. This is not simply a story about one young girl, but emblematic for the many anonymous individuals whose fates were determined by Nazi persecution. Sidonie also represents the continued persecution of the sinti and roma in Europe.
