About This Book

This Report on the Status of Pastoralists (ROSP) is an effort to address the problem of policy marginalization of pastoralists and to mainstream data on pastoralism and pastoral areas into national development policies and discourse. The project is a collaborative policy-oriented research initiative designed to present comprehensive quality data and analysis on pastoralism from four countries of the Horn and East of Africa, namely Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. It will work to provide regular, authoritative data on pastoralism, illuminating the trends in pastoral livelihood systems and assessing progress against appropriate indicators of poverty and vulnerability. It is expected that provision of data and analysis will encourage the adoption of improved policies, practice and perceptions of pastoralism within governments and development partners.
