The country of the rising sun

This publication is Otani's photobook debut. Most of the pictures in the book were made in Stockholm during the winter time. He was struck by how bright and crisp the light is in Sweden. With a refence to his home country of Japan where people are really proud to be in the country of the rising sun. But according to Otani the sun rises in every country, even in Sweden in wintertime. Shinji Otani was born in Japan. He graduated from the photography department of Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2007. He lives and works in Amsterdam. Otani approaches the making of a photobook as an installation, it's not a portfolio, but an object.
