Once Only

The author served with the B.E.F. and was evacuated from Dunkirk. He was with the 8th Army in the desert campaigns of 1941-1942. He was captured at Tobruk, and after six months in a prisoner-or-war camp near Tripoli was transferred to hospital in Italy. Finally he was taken to Austria and made his escape from a working camp attached to Stalag XVIIIa in Graz.
