The true story of a Hmong man and his people. The account begins at the Hmong New Year when a Shaman makes the prophecy that the newborn, Der, will save his people from destruction in what will become the CIA's secret war in Laos. Throughout Der's life and travels he is guided by the spirits to find his true self and rise beyond their power.
