In our country, his figure is associated especially with the traumatic episode of the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces, when General Juan Velasco Alvarado and his followers appropriated the character to turn it into an emblem of the so-called "Peruvian revolution". The economic and symbolic resources of the military government fostered a true cult, embodied in hundreds of public events, cultural interventions and monuments, from the national capital to the last Andean community. El apóstol de los andes analyzes the origins and development of this cult, placing the focus on a particular region, Cusco, the scene of the original exploits of Tupac Amaru.
