About This Book

Mashenka is a young girl sitting alone on the porch steps one day when she sees an ordinary pea lying on the ground by the steps. She wishes she were small enough to talk to the pea and as soon as the thought crosses her mind she begins to shrink and finds herself exactly the same size as the pea and talking to her. They now have to flea from the rooster in the back yard who wants to eat the pea and try to escape by jumping on a wood shaving in a puddle which now seems like a boat on a lake. Their adventures continue through the landscape of the back yard, where frogs and ants and bees are now giant monsters they must avoid and the vegetable garden consists of forested mountain ranges.
